Everytime Sadie has a seizure I’m going to try to think of a creative way to fit it into the title. Yes, that does mean she did have another one yesterday. I get a “frantic”–frantic to my husband is actually asking me to come home as opposed to taking care of it by himself–call from my husband at lunch time telling me precious little Sadie was having a REALLY bad seizure. So, I rush home so we can take her to the vet. I get home and go through the back door because she’s apparently blocking the door through the garage. Well as I walk through our gate there comes Sadie running up to me. It’s amazing to me how quickly they’re out of it and then come back to. We rush her to the vet just so he can take a look at her.
Poor vet, he rushed back from lunch to see her because one of his nurses had told him that a seizure dog was coming in and he thought it was a BIG one. He blabs for a little while and takes a look at her. Diagnoses her with epilepsy and suggests that she gets on phenobarbital. (Which a few of you suggested the other day!) He writes out a prescription and suggests a pharmacy where I go because APPARENTLY some pharmacists think it’s a little fishy when someone comes in for an addictive drug and it’s prescribed to their dog! The vet explains how this stuff is addictive and how we should not take it. All I’m picturing is the husband and I walking in and seeing Sadie trying to get to the pills to get her “fix.”
And we were laughing (I laugh at everything apparently) because her prescription bottle said Sadie Dog (last name). Can you guess who was jealous of all the attention Sadie was getting? Yes, Lexi…
Ok, enough dog talk…
I’m a little scared, this was in my “search terms”: my husband chained me the whole day. If you searched that and need help please let me know! I have ZERO idea how that came to my site–my husband has never chained me to anything at least without me asking him to! Kidding!
Why do I torture myself and go into Target? Especially when Christmas stuff is slowly trickling out. And why oh why do I feel the need to want to buy everything that is red and green that has a snowman or Santa on it? Target has ahold of my heart and it’s not letting go…here’s the link to their Christmas stuff if you’re interested.
Lastly but not Leastly, Dr. Wifey gave me an award! Dr. Wifey is a great blog–she’s funny and charming and she looks great in a little black dress! (She may be regretting giving me this after this boring post!)
The rules are that you’re supposed to pick five people and then link back to the Scholastic Scribe blog about it and Mr. Linky your blog and then link to five other people. I can’t pick five people so if you’d like to participate or if any part of your name has a vowel then grab this award and run with it!
Another winner today folks!

Hi Everybody! I'm Angela. I love my dogs, adore my husband and try to make the best out of everyday!

sorry to hear about Sadie. That must be hard.
I know how you feel about Target and all their cool Christmas stuff it’s way to fun!!
aww poor Sadie. Now, I would be frantic if I had to witness my kids having a seizure. so sorry.
and Target is the devil. I can never leave there without purchasing something, even if it’s just a candy bar. ha!
My youngest son has seizures. I know how terrifying it must be for you to see your baby going through such a thing! I hope the phenobarbital helps!
A’s seizures are so few and far between we have chosen not to medicate for now…
I’m so sorry to hear about Sadie Girl. May I call her Sadie Girl? But I DO love that they wrote the prescription to “Sadie Dog”. I am always startled to see our pets names on prescriptions. It somehow makes them more like people. They have stuff in our medicine cabinet with their own names. I love it when they get mail too.
Target? Oh, honey don’t even get me started. I have to totally sneak in there with cash. If my husband sees a charge on our card from Target he grows highly suspicious.
Hey woman, because I am a fellow dog freak and foster dog parent that fostered a seizure dog I have to give you the abbreviated version of the seizure lecture. Phenobarb is one of the classic treatments for seizures and sometimes they use it with KBr (potassium Bromide) but there are alternatives. You’ll notice that it may make you dog groggy and it is addictive. It is a controlled substance and will require bloodwork done several times a year. As your dog gets older it gets dicier, it will have an affect on her kidneys, etc so it may get harder to use. I use an alternative medicine vet (yeah hippie medicine) and she uses acupuncture and herbs to treat all of her seizure dogs. She has only had 1 dog not controlled by these methods and she uses phenobarb with just that one. Once the dog is already on the phenobarb you have to ween it back off to use the acupuncture, it’s easier if you start it out with the acupuncture. If it’s something you want to try it’s best if you start early in the process, it’s something I’d highly recommend for the long term health of your dog.
OK I’ll get off my hippie soap box now. If you want any more info email me.

Oh poor baby…you need to take a sick day to love on her
I hope your baby is doing better very soon!
I hope Sadie feels better!
Congrats on the award and that search term is really freaky!
OOh, sorry Sadie! Our good friends when I was growing up had a dog that would have seizures, and they were no fun–hope her prescription helps!
Swaim’s Serum in the Stockyards of South OKC has a pet pharmacy. Just FYI.
glad Sadie got some pills! hope she has the seizures less frequently.
i LOVE Christmas decorations. i buy anything that has a snowman on it, even if it is tacky.
you never have a boring post!
Aww, that sucks about Sadie! It’s good, though, that you have a vet who cares.
And Target is the devil. I go in for ONE thing and BOOM! I’ve got a basket full of stuff and it’s usually not even for me.
Poor Sadie!!!!! Glad to know that at least the meds will keep her from having any more of them.
As for the Christmas stuff at the store, OMG what the heck? I went to Wal-Mart last Sunday and was looking at Halloween costumes with my son, you know cuz Halloween is the nearest event to come up. In the next isle over was Christmas stuff. WTH!!!! We haven’t even gotten through Halloween and Thanksgiving. Next thing you know you’ll walk into a store and they will be playing Christmas music.
Aw poor pup. I didn’t know dogs could get seizures. Good to know since I plan on adopting soon!
I know exactly how you feel about Targer. Went in yesterday for Halloween candy. Came out $200 later and thought, huh? How did that happen?
poor sadie!!! friends of our had a dog with epilepsy. it was hard for them. here’s hoping the sadie dog pills work for her.
yep, target is a bad, bad place. i can’t keep out of there.
Here is what I think is happening…Sadie was playing with one of the hoodlum dogs in the neighborhood…they got her hooked on drugs…she is faking the seizures to get you to be her supplier. I’m just saying….she looks kinda sneaky to me! Hope the drugs work and she gets better! And you might want to ask the vet about a pill for your TARGET addiction!
Hey. Just wanted to let you know I changed my address to http://www.harmonioushouse.blogspot.com
I must have the same sense of humor as you because I’m still trying not to laugh over the prescription bottle reading “Sadie Dog.” That’s purty darn funny!
I hope this helps out though and that she’ll be feeling a lot better now.

I hate dog medical problems. I feel bad because they don’t understand what’s going on. Trust me I know…Sunny has had every problem in the book. I had our vets number memorized for awhile.
Yes, a dog sits still for acupuncture, so do cats, birds and horses and just about every other animal I’ve seen it done on. I know, sounds weird but it works. I’ve had it done on most of my animals when they’ve needed it. My Roxy has it done for her hips during the winter months. Once a week for 4 weeks, then once every 2 weeks for a month. then once a month for like 2 months. Then she’s good until the next winter. It depends on the dog though. And seizure dogs are all different. You can do a consult with your local acupuncturist to find out about the treatment schedule.
I’m glad he recommended a pharmacy because I would hate to think about what would be going through the tech’s mind otherwise!
Target is probably why despite the fact my husband is making $20K more then last year I still can’t get the credit cards paid off or put anything in savings. I need to join more playgroups or something to keep me out of there. The cashiers know me by name and the cafe manager comes to me if Connor and I don’t stop in immediately after coming in the door–Sadly, I’m not kidding!
Congrats on your award.. you deserve it.. sorry about Sadie, although the story was quite funny!! I can just picture the pill addiction, and the prescription bottle!! LOL Oh, and I LOVE the picture on the way to the vet, so great!!
aw poor Sadie! that must be weird to have to go the pharmacist for your dog…
What a cute little award!!
I hope the new meds help Sadie. How scary that must be for her and YOU all!
If you start typing really weird stuff we are going to have to turn you in because we’re going to think you’re taking Sadie’s meds! LOL
Target can be a very dangerous place!! I love snowmen too!
Go Sadie! Addictive drugs. Whoo-hoo!! Oh wait…
Sorry she has been having seizures. Hope the prescription helps! So scary! Our pug has this terrible, honking cough right now and it’s freaking me out. I’m afraid the vet will say it’s something serious and then…
My name starts with a vowel. Even better! LOL
Sorry to hear about Sadie, but I do love me some dog stories…..especially ones with funny comment bubbles!
funny you should mention the whole target thing – insinuating the griphold that powerful marketing can have…aren’t you in marketing??? poor thing about the dog’s seizures – cute title for a post though.
Thanks for stopping by my blog, I had a dog when I was growing up that had seizures, it really freaked me out but thankfully it only happened a few times after she started her medication
wow, poor Sadie. I hope she doesn’t get strung out on that stuff.
(there are some really strange folks out there…)
Oh, and sorry– that was me doing that search, I needed to spice things up and I hoped you’d be able to help
Hey, you deserve the award… I am a sadist too when it comes to Target and Christmas, or Target and any other holiday, well really, just Target any old day…. please don’t let your dog get hooked on drugs…I don’t want to hear about your dog knocking over the 7-11 to get her fix….
Lexi is going to want pills too!
Most people get annoyed with stores setting up for Christmas this early. I love it! I have a countdown till Christmas on my phone – 64 days!
Thanks for the comment! Yes, he did get a generous tip, but I’m usually over-generous. When I don’t like a server I give them a 20% tip while thinking, “TAKE THAT!”
Love your dog blog!! I’m sure you noticed I have one of my own that I adore!
Seizures are scary things! My dogs each had one after eating mushrooms in the back yard. We rushed them to the vet and did a lot of praying. Honestly, I had no idea that mushrooms growing in the yard could cause something likes that but the vet reassured us that in our part of Georgia — it is very common. Go figure! It hasn’t happened since though.
I’m very glad that your sweet puppy-baby was okay.
Blessings!
Lacy
poor puppy. I work in a pharmacy and have a couple people that get phenobarbital for their dogs. One of them said their dog has been seizure free for over a year now! Hope it works!
Thanks for stoping by my blog today and leaving a comment! visit again!
Katrina
thanks for stopping by my blog via Pioneer Woman! I once had a dog that suffered from seizures. We had to give her daily doses of phenobarbital.
Oh man. Crazy day for you! I hope the medication helps with the seizures.
oh poor sadie! thankfully the vet has diagnosed her and given her some meds- wow, those are serious meds!! no dipping your wicks, now, ya hear??- it must be a relief/scare to be moving onto the next level. i hope this really helps her. here’s a pat for lexi- pat pat pat. and BOY do i know how you feel about target. we live in nyc in an apartment, a fact i seem to completely turn into a palatial mansion when i see snowmen!
Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment! I can see how people say dogs are like having children, that is why I need to raise my children first before getting a dog!
It kind of weirds me out that your dog and I are both on seizure medicines. However, on the good side… I am seizure free! Hopefully Sadie will be too.
Sadie is going to do great on that med, I just know it!
Poor puppy. Hope his drug addiction is making him feel better.
I hear you on the Target and Xmas stuff. They should call Wal-mart and Target “Crap I don’t need but will by anyway cause I’m a sucker for a deal”.
My aunt works in a pharmacy in the little town she lives near and delivers Prozac to some little old ladies CAT. I kid you not.
I work at Target and let’s just say that Christmas and Back to school are NOT our favorite times of the year.
How scary, I am glad she is better. Don’t worry I do “dumb” Clumsy stuff all the time. I hit my head on several occasions getting into the car.
Awww Sadie…. I have friends that have a golden-doodle with epilepsy… They recount the fun stories of giving “ass Valium” ugh. And, um yeah, they just opened a new Target five minutes away. I have already been there like 39 times since last week. It is definitely the Devil….but a nice, really moderately priced devil….who loves me back
