I’ll tell you what’s awesome. Well first it would be awesome if I used the correct punctuation in my title–hello question mark!
But the second most awesome thing is when your sweet, cute, fat dog named Lexi decides to bite a house guest.
(Doesn’t she look like a monster?)
Poor John (house guest) chose the wrong time to walk in front of her. Just like a crocodile she struck. Luckily she didn’t draw blood. She spent most of the rest of the weekend sucking up to John, me and the hubby to try to win us over.
I’m not really sure how to react to her biting someone. It’s like finding out your kid bit another kid in the nursery. (Ok, that’s a true story–when I was a baby I got bit in the back by another baby in the nursery! I think he was just flirting with me–I was such a cute baby!) You can’t hold a grudge, but you can’t just ignore the fact that she bit someone. DOG WHISPERER I NEED YOU!
Now this pup…
She was a perfect angel. Other than the fact that her seat kept getting taken she enjoyed tolerated company.
Maybe someday something will actually happen with a human being so I don’t have to write about my dogs EVERY TIME!
I actually have a really funny toilet story but it’s even too gross for me to write about. We’ll just leave it at-the toilet wouldn’t flush in a public restroom so I had to take matters into my own hands…
Was it an aggressive attack/bite? I think you have to be very careful once a dog bites…because now you’re liable, if it happens again.
We had a dog bite a friend’s parent when I was growing up. We had to get rid of the dog. :o(
ok – first – just read the poop story. nice. very nice.
ok – the biting. yeah – dont know where to go with that one? does John look scary? does he look intimidating? why didn’t you take a pic of HIM and let us vote on it to see if we ahve any ideas as to why she bit him. Maybe she thought he looked de-lish… i mean, after all, he probably looked better than poop, right?
When our oldest was about 2 he got bit by one of our dogs. We called the vet, because we were expecting again and was concerned about a newborn. They said they don’t do anything after the first bite, because it doesn’t mean they are agressive all of a sudden. After the third time he snapped at Logan and made a mark on him we had him put to sleep. I wouldn’t worry to much about Lexi yet.
Oh boy! I’m sooo glad she didn’t break the skin! Hopefully it was just a warning type situation and caused by something he did that normally wouldn’t be happening.
They’re both so dang gorgeous 🙂
oops at least she didn’t draw blood. scooby is the one i’m worried about doing that. he likes people he just needs to get to know them first. and some people are dumb and won’t just ignore him for the first few minutes and instead try to pet him (hand over his head…not a good dog gesture) and then scooby gets all defensive…*sigh
It’s disturbing….last time I took Crumpet to the vet and she started poking around in his ears…he actually went after her. They had to put a muzzle on him…It totally freaked us both out because it’s just NOT how he is. I guess every dog has an off day. As long as it NEVER happens again. And heck…maybe he had it coming lol
That’s just not good. I have a dog that bites but he’s unstable so we have to change our lives and how he interacts with people to make everyone safe. Could you do us a favor and tell us EXACTLY what was going on when she bit? I’m a dog trainer (positive reinforcement only) and have always owned at least 1 dog that bites. It’s a thing, I think they hunt me down. Really, the dogs I own should have been euthanized and if it wasn’t for me (or someone like me, insanely trained in biters) they’d be dead.
Sure I will let you know exactly what was happening. She was laying on the floor between an ottoman and the coffee table in the living room. She may have been sleeping (I don’t really remember) and as he walked by her (he wasn’t even paying attention to her) she sort of just lunged at the back of his leg and nipped. He isn’t a scary looking guy (the houseguest) but he is extremely loud and when we were playing Wii he’d jump up and yell things like “Noooo…” or “Dangit” She’s really not used to extremely loud people so we think maybe she was scared of him or something. She’s never, ever attempted to BITE someone but she has growled before. Putting her down is not an option (since we don’t have kids or have frequent visitors) but she may just have to become an outside dog when visitors are at our house. Michelle, how would you suggest “punishing” her if she ever happened to do that again?
What the HAY???
And I would personally like to thank you for NOT posting the toilet/hand debacle… ” )
For anyone who wants to know, I did answer Angela’s question via email. I totally forgot to check back here for her response and she was smart enough to assume that I’m a slacker and emailed me. The short answer, btw, is you don’t punish a dog for being afraid and I’m pretty sure it was a fear bite. If anyone is needing more info you’ll have to suffer through my insanely long ass email that I sent. It’s good stuff, just hella long.
Funny, funny blog! I am a dog lover too. My 2 dogs keep us plenty busy. I had a lab for 20 years and would love to get another one!
I’ll come back often, I came over from Nikki’s blog.
Lilly
Just hopped over by way of Blah and wanted to say HI. Our sweet Golden, Darby, is getting older and will be a sad day when she’s gone…saw your post about your pal passing.
Yeah, it sucks to have the doggies bite. Our pup gets a little weird about his food dish at other people’s homes. He snapped at my mother one time when she tried to step over him when he was eating. We promptly moved his dish outside.
No blood; no foul, I say.
I had something really intelligent to write until I read that last paragraph. Now I can’t remember anything!
